embase chassis connector Explanation: That is the essence of what it means; however, if you are correct in using 'prise' for a socket, aka female (line) connector — whereas cable-mounted connectors are most often male (= 'fiche') — the implication would be that this is a 'male chassis connector' — which would be entirely consistent with the use being described here. Note that another common translation of 'embase' is 'header' — but I don't think that is so likely to apply here. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 mins (2019-10-21 10:22:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The illustration in your document might make this clearer! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 48 mins (2019-10-21 11:03:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Item (2) on the figure is the 'chassis connector' as a whole, (21) (electrical) and (22) (mechanical) are the 'inserts'. It is made clear that the connector on the cable is indeed 'female' — its proper designation might better be a 'cable-mounting female connector', but the gender of its contacts means that it would, in lay language at least, be usually referred to as a 'cable-mounting socket' So I wholly stand by my suggestion. |
