Hi,

I have a text in which the narrator is telling us about how it was in Brittany, back in the day. In this specific instance, tuna fishing in the Bay of Biscay. (Originally, he was talking about sardine fishing). Tuna fishing was a sort of alternative when there were no sardines.

At first I thought "tromper la commise" was some kind of expression..but it seems that "lacommise" is a person..

Back at the port, there was a "trancheur" who, apparently sniffed the tuna :) and said whether it was "pourri"or not, after that, here is the paragraph:

"Mais quelquefois le marin-pêcheur lui, il est un peu... il fait frire des oignons, à bord. Ca change l’odeur du thon... bon, ça fait tromper la commise, mais... voire, quelque fois on sert le thé...
Donc tous ces petits gestes-là font que quelquefois la commise, elle se laisse prendre, quoi, elle dise.. bon ben voilà, on va le prendre...il n’est pas très bon, mais il n’est pas tout à fait mauvais"

So as I understand it, the"commise" is a person who sometimes, lets the tuna "pass" even though it isn't that fresh.?

This suggestion is deliberately casual, given the style of the narrative.
Its length is the solution I would settle to avoid a compact official title that would sound at odd with the said story style.
If the story is to be rendered 'full on' as a joke, would even be tempted to put 'screening test' or just 'test' in single quotes as done here. But this can be challenged since the original does not use those.
