________

I don't think that they get up to all this chez XXXXX, but it's supposed to reflect the life of the jet set - and hence the people who would no doubt frequent this fashion house. The images here are of Faye Dunaway (I think) playing chess, a casino scene (Peter Sellers? + a dolly bird), and a woman wearing historic costume and holding a sort of half-mask to one side of her face with a hole through which she is peering (not much of a disguise). There's another image of some gents peering through binoculars at a race, with a hatted lady whose face is almost totally hidden by a massive white shawl.

The term is just one in that list - I merely separated it onto another line to make it easier to spot.

Is this perhaps to do with bluffing in card games, or perhaps even the name of a card game? For "coup de poker", I have gambling - which fits the casino image. Unfortunately, the captions are not linked to any particular images...

I'd be jolly grateful (and relieved!) if anyone could suggest what this is - many thanks!

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Zingaro. many thanks! No, It is correct French, albeit somewhat abbreviated at times. This part is about how high society used to amuse themselves - casinos, playing cards, etc. It was before people had websites (sorry, didn't think to mention that)

Asker: Hi Zingaro, I apologise for closing this question without grading, but in the end, I used "hiding and showing one's cards", which is probably not close enough to your answer to enable me to award you points :( Unfortunately, I can no longer access the Discussion Box to reply to Stéphanie, or anyone! Your help was appreciated nevertheless!
