French term or phrase: jeu de piste
Hi there,

I need to translate this: "jeu de piste".

It's for a game people will play in a city (a tourism and history game) that will take them around a city. They will find clues and gain points depending on their answers etc.

I thought of "treasure hunt" or "tracking game" but i don't think they reflect "jeu de piste"...

Merci beaucoup amis traducteurs !

Trail game

Explanation:
I think the term "trail" is used to describe a lot of these kind of games. This website uses the terms "myster trail" or "treasure trail" for some idea. Obviously, there may be no idea of mystery or treasure here, but something could be used alongside "trail".

(city) quest

Explanation:
My offering, as in the following example. The use of the term "quest" avoids the notion of concrete treasure, while still retaining the idea of searching or hunting, in this case for facts, information, etc.

City Quest
Embark on an adventure that is part walking tour, part amazing race experience. Follow clues and solve the puzzle to discover your surprise destination - a delicious meal in one of Melbourne's fabulous restaurants! Along the way, you'll discover hidden gems, culture, history and trivia. Anyone can Quest - families, friends, locals and visitors.

City challenge might also work, although this is used in particular in a corporate context, e.g.

Dublin CITY CHALLENGE
Our famous treasure hunt and quiz around Dublin city, using our mobile number application or paper based. Great fun and very rewarding. Take in the famous streets and sights, mix with it's people and be back in the hotel, restaurant or bar for the final prize giving.

Some more references for similar ideas (if you add the word "historic[al], then "treasure hunt" would probably work too):

A new program at the Northern Forest Heritage Park hopes to help students of all ages along on their “quest” for knowledge. Starting this fall, NFHP will offer local schools and park visitors the opportunity to take a “historical quest” — a treasure hunt of sorts that leads participants on a tour of several cultural landmarks, collecting nuggets of information that, taken together, paint a rich and educational portrait of the region’s heritage.

Half-day Historic Treasure Hunt in Chester
Working in small teams, guests will be briefed over a glass of Kia Royal before setting off on different routes around the city. Armed with treasure hunt packs, each team will walk around the old city walls visiting pre-determine venues and answering a series of questions and solving clues. They will be helped by Treasure Hunt staff that will be strategically located around their route. The team correctly answering the most questions and solving the most clues, will be declared the winner.
