French term or phrase: aux couleurs de
Context: formal letter/invitation to the Prix d'Amérique horse race in Paris.

Background info.: 1. This event was initially set up in 1920 to thank America for the help it afforded France during the First World War
2. The event has an American-style slant with cheerleaders dressed in stars and stripes outfits with Amercian flags etc.


"....cette journée...aux couleurs de l’Amérique"

I am unsure as how to render 'aux couleurs de l'Amérique' as above:

- is it literal as in the sense: 'sporting the colours of America'
or
- could it mean 'a tribute to America'?

Thank you for clarification/opinion and suggested renderings. (NB am aware that America is a continent, the United States being a country)
