French term or phrase: et surtout couvrantes
This is a kind of promotional article on a range of hair colouring products, supposedly written (or spoken) by a top hair stylist. He is explaining why he has chosen to use this product brand, making reference to the skills, talents, art etc required by today's hairdressers and colour stylists.
In this sentence, I have no idea what "couvrantes" could mean in the actual context it is placed, alongside two other descriptions of the colour choice available.

Au départ le large choix de couleurs m’a interpellée parce que, différentes, brillantes et surtout couvrantes. Le choix des blonds est à couper le souffle!

I have put:
"Initially, the wide choice of colours proved challenging to me with the variety, vibrancy and, in particular, ????.

and especially by/for their (excellent) coverage
Explanation:
He is saying he was pleasantly surprised by the degree of (grey) coverage these products offer so you can play around with adjectives or simply say "coverage". The preposition will depend on how you render m’a interpellée

disagree  B D Finch: "Surtout" doesn't mean "mainly". Also, the correct form here is the noun "coverage", not "covering".

disagree  AllegroTrans: Refrs are OK but "mainly" in no way equates to "surtout" in this context
