I understand that literally they mean the outcome of the probation period or "fate" of the employment contract as such but I don't think these are the correct terms, help appreciated thanks

The outcome or final disposition of the contract may be known after the trial or probationary period, but only its current status would be known during that period. And the French says "pendant ou à l’expiration de votre période d’essai."

I just don't see how the fate (outcome, decision, future) of the contract can be decided definitively during the trial or probationary period... unless, that is, there is another clause stating that "trial" status will convert to permanent status if such a decision is made before the entire period has elapsed.

neutral  Tony M: Yes, but the trouble is, it isn't really the status (at least not the current one), it is the future status — which sounds a bit strange

  -> Normally I would agree, but I don't think we can read it that way here, since the contract may be terminated anytime during the trial period... But I suppose I could be reading it wrong. :-|
