French term or phrase: agent d'accueil
In a questionnaire, in the section "Quelle est votre profession?", under the heading:

Personnels des services et vendeurs de magasin et de marché:

- Personnels des services directs aux particuliers et des services de protection et de sécurité (ex: agent d'accueil, économe, cuisinier, aide-soignant)

Any ideas anyone what's meant by "agent d'accueil"?

Due to a lack of meaningful context, the general term "front desk agent" sounds to me as though it can't be far off the mark. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and comments.

reception officer

Explanation:
For me "receptionist" conjures up images of a desk-bound female, in particular working in a private company.
While this may have been the case in the past, today more and more 'agents d'accueil' are men, and whatever their gender they can be found in many different places - a museum, a police station, Pole Emploi, an airport to name just a few. So I feel 'reception officer' is more general and appropriate here.
