French term or phrase: Le N+1 du salarié

Hello!

Does anyone know what the term 'N+1' means in relation to employers/employees?

The only references I can find are related to income tax, and I don't think that fits the bill here:

'Le N+1 du salarié et le CDM doivent en être informés'

and again:

'Test passé sur la mission, supervisé par le N+1'.

It comes in a powerpoint presentation explaining the application process for someone who applies to work overseas for an organisation based in their home country.

We've had this before in KudoZ!

It means 'the next one up the hierarchical ladder', which in mlany contexts woulkd be referred to as 'line manager' — or 'immediate superior' in not-so-PC old fashioned speak
