Not sure whether 'cotation' should be 'marking' or 'weighting' (if there are maybe a series of tests), or whether by putting 'marking' I am covering both options...

Asker: Thanks, Chantal and other contributors. In my (European) context, the word 'marking' was the best fit, as I discovered from later parts of the translation. But the important thing for me was to understand whether it was just the marks attributed to qualifications and/or test results, or the weighting.

  -> Yes, but in research papers and empirical studies, the term generally used is scoring, not marking, which has more of a connotation of grading school work.
