I think that the point is the contrast between the "real" flagship site and the "unreal" virtual/avatar shop on Second Life and that whichever of these is resorted to, it fails to fill the gap.

Possibly... but I don't think the writer himself has that sort of knowledge of English! I'm also confused about the 'magasin-avatar' bit as that seems a slightly strange example to pick... In other words, what is the real point of these two options? Or is it precisely that the first is obvious - it's what everyone does - and the second is less obvious, but either way neither has the effect required... Just thinking aloud here!

Re Heloise's reply, flagship site crossed my mind as well - and may well end up being the best response. My slight reservation was that it might give a "phare"-type impression that a particular site is the leading site of the company's websites, whereas my reading is that it is about establishing a (virtual) presence/entry point. The "flagship" may refer to the net as the medium which is - or should be - the prime communication tool (rather than an individual website per se). "Flagship Presence" might be a way of keeping the flag allusion, but I haven't checked if this term is suitable (or even used).

"Flagship site" was my immediate thought too, but it seemed strange that "site drapeau" gets so few google hits (ans so far I haven't found any where it means what it means here)...
