French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Law: Contract(s) / French Canadian contract
French term or phrase: entrepreneur procédé/ contrat procédé
I am translating a municipal works contract from Quebec, so written in Canadian French. The term "procédé" as in "entrepreneur procédé" and "contrat procédé" is used continuously. Searching in lots of linguist resources, I have not been able to find the word "procédé" in any similar context. It appears to mean something like the appointed contractor and the contract in question.

E.g.:
"toutes les activités devant être exécutées par l’entrepreneur procédé en vertu du contrat procédé pour concevoir, fournir les biens et services, construire, effectuer le montage électrique, "

So my guess is that it is a Quebecois term, and that it doesn't really need translating at all, if there is no equivalent English term.

Any suggestions? Thanks for any insights.

method-based contract

Explanation:
procédé can also be "procedure" or "method".

In every Department of Transportation (DOT), the majority of the budget is expended in maintaining roads, bridges, and interchanges. Generally, three types of road maintenance methods are used: in-house, method-based contract (MBC), and performance-based contract (PBC).

However, it is easy for a client, with the best will in the world and without any devious intent, to transform a method based contract into a performance contract

neutral  writeaway: A Canadian reference would be helpful. Yours is USA and just shows the existence of the term in English. Doesn't really back the translation as such

disagree  Daryo: what would be a "method-based contractor" ???

chosen contractor / agreed contract (the one with the selected bidder)

Explanation:
"procédé" = that has been taken to next step in the "procedure" (here the tender) i.e. the contractor has has been selected/chosen amongst all those who made an offer, and the accompanying contract that has been "taken to next step", the next step from "offering a contract" being to agree a contract.

you can look at it as a variation on: "nous avons procédé avec cette offre"

Asker: This looks promising, it could be s"elected contractor" perhaps.

neutral  Germaine: NO.

Asker: I have no engineering experience as you can tell. I have no response from the agency/client on this, but I tend to think that Process Contract/Contractor is probably the one.
