This is in a collaboration agreement. This is not referring to an extension of the patent term (it's not a renewal) as this sentence shows: "Les Parties se consulteront pour déterminer les extensions à l'étranger des demandes de brevet".

Here's an example of "extension de brevet" on its own:
"Chaque Partie peut renoncer à ses droits sur un brevet ou une extension de brevet, pour les pays dans lesquels elle estime que la protection n'est pas indispensable".

The text mentions the renewal of the patent in the same phrase as "extension de brevet", so it definitely isn't renewal (for example, "les démarches nécessaires en vue de la délivrance, du maintien en vigueur et/ou du renouvellement du brevet et/ou de son extension dans les pays concernés..."

Basically, this is my question: is there a term for "extension de brevet" in the sense of extending your patent protection to foreign countries? A term that will fit in to translate "extension de brevet" on its own? I think the obvious answer, "patent extension" sounds too much like "patent renewal".

If you are interested in the international protection of your invention, according to the Paris Convention, you must file the international standard form, during the priority period,
which is of 12 months. You will also have to ask for a priority certificate to be released and the application to be prepared for the international phase. You can also file a national patent application in that particular country. After this final step the
procedure for international patenting can be supported only by an industrial property counselor/attorney.
