Results/Conclusion -- Compound Tissue

Many different tissues are combined and assembled together to form organs. By interchangeably taking the helpful functions of each type of tissues, different organs are able to be specialized for its designated function. The heart consists mostly of smooth muscle tissue, as it is an involuntary and controlled by the autonomous portion of the brain. However, other tissues are also help the heart function properly. These include the epithelial, connective, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue seals the chambers of heart in order to prevent blood leakage. Connective tissue increases the elasticity of the hearts walls and valves, which is crucial for pumping. The neurons regulate the hearts pace and control the rhythm of the contractions in the cardiac muscles. The stomach is mainly composed of three types of tissues: epithelial, connective, and smooth muscle. The lumen, the space within the stomach, is lined with columnar epithelium, which secretes digestive juices and mucus. Its finger-like shape increases its surface area to volume ratio, which allows for easier digestion. Underneath the columnar epithelium is a layer of connective tissue that houses nerves and blood vessels. Three layers of smooth muscle that surround the connective tissues allow food churning and the movement of food down the digestive tract. Another layer of connective tissues surrounding the entire stomach allows for better elasticity when the stomach is churning or fluctuating. The combinations of tissues give way for a more complex entity, an organ. Since one type of tissue would never be able to carry out various functions, it needs to work cooperatively with other tissues to perform tasks the most efficiently.
