A subsequent order by Hermann Balck, commander of the Army Group G, from 2 November 1944 stated that all German forces in the Vosges mountains were to withdraw to the pre-determined **defensive line** and the area west of it was to be destroyed and any assets like livestock and food evacuated.

Thank you. Although "stop line" was used in Britain during WWII, defense or defensive line is specific to the Vosges mountains and is exactly what is needed in this context.
