French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Military / Defense / large caliber weapons
French term or phrase: alvéoles
Context:
Editing a document about gun magazines and unable to copy original text but not certain about the word "cell" in the following:
Advantageously, each belt conveyor comprises a series of cells connected to each other by articulated links, each cell having means for holding an ammunition.
The original French was "alveoles" which could be translated as cell but is this correct for military use?

English translation:cells
Explanation:
According to this article on the American FMC (tank) autoloader, "rounds are stored, base up, in an individual cell which has a warhead support at the bottom".

This article is about the Giat Industries automatic loader for the Leclerc Main Battle Tank. Talking about the automatic loader, it says,"The conveyor system includes an endless chain consisting of a combination of two opened and articulated cells which slide on tracks through the panels, motorised transmission system for automatic selection and transmission mechanisms for manual selection....For MBTs other than the Giat Industries Leclerc, the automatic loader can be modified by adding or deleting conveyor cells in order to adapt the automatic loader size to the room available in the turret bustle."

However, I'm not sure if the terminology used here will have been translated from a French source as this is a French made autoloader.
