French term or phrase: images planes
Context:

Plane images, flat images, or what?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA Chris.

English translation:flat image
Explanation:
I'd say that this explicit, literal term would be most helpful to a reader here — 'flat' by opposition with '3D'.
However, I don't know if there exists a specialist technical term normally used here!

Thank you.

Asker: I don`t particularly like "flat" but think it is the best choice, not that there is much choice. Plane image is out because of possible confusion with image of plane. Thank you and have a good day.

agree  chris collister: Given the slightly technical register, I'd be inclined to use "plane image". A "flat" image could, just possibly, be construed as one lacking contrast!// Yes, google "plane image" and all you get are well, aeroplanes!

-> Thanks, Chris! That's what I was thinking too; but then again, there is the risk of confusion with 'image plane' — and also, the fact that the image might well be of a plane!

2D images

Explanation:
Hello

I've found "flat" and "plane" images but I like 2D images which you can also find as the final image is 3D of course.
Perhaps not if describing an old Stereoscope but in a modern description.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of this but I think even the source might have used 2D, so eventually left it as flat image.
