I am aware that this text is probably found online, but in the meantime I still am unsure how "concentre" is being used here:

"Subissant des dégâts importants en 1833, elle a été partiellement reconstruite avant 1844, devenant ainsi une maison rurale de type concentré avec logements, grange,...."

Thanks in advance for any advice on the use of "concentré" here.

under single gable roof
Explanation:
Can't give you the reference as it takes you to a non editable pdf which you cannot search but the caption on Internet says
"La maison de type concentré, où tout se rassemble sous le même toit, serait-elle un habitat de sédentaire, tandis que la maison dissociée, où le logis des ..."
Another similar hit says "Maison de type concentré, en maçonnerie, avec une toiture à deux pans en tuiles creuses,un avant-toit très débordant, un escalier extérieur etde.
So i conclude "under one gable roof

Hello
On this question of gable roof or not, I based myself on a single description (the second one with "à deux pans en tuile). I have noted however that all the other references people have given lead to pictures of such houses with... gable roofs. Is this merely a coincidence? Either way, the asker took out this part of my suggestion to be on the safe. side and flagged the segment for the client.

Looking into this a bit more, I have realised that this is not just a house with attached outbuildings. It is specifically the sort of house that used to be very common here in Ariège, where farm animals, the harvest and people were all housed under one roof, with the people living on the upper floor(s). I have only seen one house where people are still living that way, but I am sure that there still are some. So, part of the building would be a barn and the hay barn would generally be on the first floor with farm implements below and the animals would often be next to that with the habitable part of the building above them, getting some extra warmth from the cows during the winter.

I think that the best way of dealing with this is to retain the French and add an explanation in English.

disagree  SafeTex: This completely misses the point that all the attached outbuildings are under one and the same roof.

-> They are under the same roof, but not necessarily a gable roof. Also, the ground floor often housed the cattle, with the family living above.

disagree  B D Finch: The fact that you have found a description of one "Maison de type concentré" that has a gable roof, doesn't make a gable roof part of the definition of the term.//So why not throw in the outside staircase too?!

-> Hello. I don't think I found one description of a particular house but a definition of what it means

disagree  Daryo: Have to agree with B D Finch - the "gable" part is surplus to requirement for this ST [which is what counts!]
