hair worn down can take away from your look

Explanation:
This is just my first impression on reading that first bullet point, without having done any research, but I think she may be referring to the fact that hair worn down can sometimes look messy/detract from an overall look (like sometimes you might pull your hair back to keep a clean look/keep the focus on your clothes). Par contre, I have no idea what she means by "accidents", so take this with a grain of salt. I have definitely seen the idea in a fashion context of keeping hair simple/clean/pulled back to keep the focus on the clothes, though.

(slightly disheveled) hair softens the face

Explanation:
I have a different feeling from the text. It seems that the loose pony tail, the messy chignon and locks of hair falling against the face make an "artfully disheveled " look that is very much in fashion, perhaps a throwback to the 70s.

Example sentence(s):
  • These golden blonde locks fall softly around the face and cleverly conceal the corners of the forehead to draw attention away from the angular shape.

disagree  Jeffrey Henson: I have to disagree here Janice. Yes, "Se casser la figure" in French has the meaning of falling, but not like you interpret it as "falling softly" around the face. It has the very negative meaning of "falling flat on one's face".
