agree  writeaway: Of course they are refererring to the business

agree  Tony M: You also need to consider carefully what the proper name of the company is, as you may need to / be able to take a lead from that.

neutral  Julie Barber: I agree with Omiston. Of course your answer is factually correct, but "Maison" conveys a more elevated, specialised image to me. I think that it would be good to ask the client to clarify their chosen image

  -> Thanks Barbara

agree  Julie Barber: I prefer this, if it fits for the company in question. Depending on the image that they want to convey, they could elaborate with "our fine winery", "our established winery" etc

  -> Thanks Julie

neutral  Conor McAuley: I don't like winery for use in France, it's too Anglo, wine estate maybe, but not winery / For me, the word "winery" instantly says wine from Australia, California, South Africa. Like calling a baguette bread, stretching my point, it's true BUT...

  -> Too Anglo? That's the whole idea! :)

Our establishment

Explanation:
"Maison" has connotations of style and class -- think of "maison de haute couture", etc.

I think "establishment" reflects that, and also tradition, a long history, and so on.

Note added at 2 days 23 hrs (2021-04-19 08:31:13 GMT)
--------------------------------------------------

You could make it "historical establishment", "prestigious establishment", or something like "esteemed establishment", or a combination -- "prestigious historical establishment" -- to amp up the impact.

neutral  David Hayes: For me at least, this word springs to mind most naturally in relation to hotels and restaurants, often prefixed with 'high-class', 'family', 'cosy' or whatever (depending on the particular ambiance being claimed by those using the term).

  -> Fair enough, language perception is personal. Recently someone on KudoZ told me that "community" had negative connotations for her. We all live different lives and experience things in different ways.

agree  Julie Barber: I think this is going in the right direction in terms of the image

Reference comments

17 mins
Reference: Our house, our domain.

Reference information:
If it is a simple home, then you could just use: our house or home.
If it is in reference to a vineyard then domaine or estate would be more appropriate.
Possibly business or establishment.
This depends upon the context of the whole translation.

Example sentence(s):
  • Our house (domain, or estate if a vignoble) is located in the vineyards of the Corbières

Note to reference poster
Asker: Thanks. It's actually talking about the winemaking company but company seems a bit lowgrade. Maybe establishment is a bit more dignified ?

  -> @judithr, establishment might do if it is a bottling company or cooperative, but if it is an actual vineyard then domaine or estate. Writeaway, I realise that. That is why I gave other options.it is an actual vineyard
