Les melons musqués (brodés) comportent le « cantaloup » Européen (peau rugueuse et verruqueuse, non maillée), le melon « d’hiver » (peau douce et blanche et chair douce et verte), et le « brodé » ou « cantaloup » Nord-Américain (peau beige à maillage gris, chair très douce et orange clair).

Contrairement aux melons d’eau, les melons de la famille des melons musqués diffèrent grandement dans la manière de savoir quand ils sont mûrs et pour choisir le meilleur melon.

Les melons doivent généralement être lourds pour leur taille et doivent toujours être parfumés quand ils sont mûrs. Si vous sentez la peau et pouvez sentir la saveur du melon, il sera parfait pour être mangé.

Avec une forte teneur en eau, souvent près de 90%, les saveurs douces du melon sont souvent trop délicates seules, essayez de les rehausser en ajoutant une herbe ou une épice.

Essayez de remuez du XXX et du jus de melon d’eau frais avec une brindille de menthe fraîche, un trait de jus de citron frais et du sirop de sucre. Servez aussitôt dans un verre à martini.
