Non capisco bene cosa vogliano dire qui. Si parla di un inventario del 1750 che ha permesso di ricostruire l'arredamento di alcune sale di un castello.

On a retrouvé les éléments de mobilier, ce ne sont pas des éléments qui sont de XXX (nome del castello) mais ce sont les mêmes que ceux qui sont dans l’inventaire et puis on a retrouvé avec les restaurateurs les tissus qui correspondent à la description que l’on a dans cet inventaire après décès: un damas de coton et une bordure avec des fleurs et un feuillage. L’élément essentiel, c’est cet inventaire après décès de 1750 qui nous donne une description. Ensuite, on essaie de la retranscrire en français moderne, de comprendre à quoi correspond cette description, de les trouver en vente publique ou chez des marchands ou avec des institutions qui nous déposent des meubles. Soit c’est un dépôt, soit on achète des meubles sur le marché de l’art qui correspondent à la bonne estampille d’un ébéniste qui a travaillé dans cette même période.

Do note, though, if you use 'consigne', that there is not necessarily any intention to sell the items; indeed, in this specific instance, i'd say it was highly unlikely.

'déposer' is what big museums do when they lend works of art etc. to smaller, perhaps provincial museums.
