Estou traduzindo um manual de uma máquina (chariot poseur de rails ou rail threader, em inglês) que faz a colocação de trilhos ferroviários. "Rallonges" creio que posso chamar de extensões. Mas eu não consigo entender o "tôles de fermeture". Alguma luz?
Contexto:
"En cas de travail dans des conditions difficiles comme en tunnels, en devers ou à entraxes réduits, les rallonges peuvent être remplacées par des tôles de fermeture."
