German term or phrase: zurück gehenden Platz
Speaking of the Roman "schola," the question is whether certain structures found in excavations are scholae or not:

Deren Existenz, z.

My draft:

Their existence, e.g., as a meeting place for associations of Roman citizens and/or veterans, is very likely, but not yet been established archaeologically. If the unusual apsidal construction of a portico or porch in front of the porta principalis dextra at the Ruffenhofen fort really involves a schola, this would be taken for a prominent plaza, perhaps receding from the original layout of the fort-vicus.

The whole thing is a bit murky, but especially the queried phrase. What does it mean for a plaza to recede -- or is the meaning wrong?

Asker: Thanks for your help, Horst. I closed the question once Kim pointed out my basic error concerning "Platz." I guess it doesn't show very prominently on the page.
