German term or phrase: Rathaussaal
I always struggle with this: the Rathaussaal in the Rathaus. It can't be the hall in the hall. What's a good English-language term for this space? "Council chamber", used online in a number of places, suggests a place where council meetings are held, but I'm talking about a beautifully decorated formal room for weddings, events, etc.

English translation:town hall state room(s)
Explanation:
A few town halls in the UK refer to the their grand, ceremonial rooms as state rooms.

Manchester town hall has a Great Hall (another option) and state rooms:

"The second floor is the most impressive of the Town Hall and contains the Great Hall and the staterooms."

Barnsley town hall has state rooms, too. This is from the Experience Barnsley website and is about venue hire:

"Alternatively we can work with Barnsley Council to arrange for the hire of the Town Hall state rooms for larger events and functions"
