Since this is likely to be an Old Master painting, it is probably best to go with convention on this one - landscape being a set genre.

Both google heavily, although I have to admit the former does outnumber the latter. As far as US v. UK usage is concerned, I have no idea. I personally am from the UK. I have nothing against "river landscape", but found "riverscape" (by analogy with "cityscape", "seascape", "GreatEscape" (sorry!)) more succinct, particularly given the already rather long title of the painting.

suggest 'River landscape' rather than "riverscape.' Or even 'landscape with river and boats with view of castle/fortress'.

I would not call "riverscape" US usage. I think that in paintings and so on, it is common to refer to a "river scene".

You've closed with a solution (so fast - cn understand, but ProZ practice of leaving open 24 hrs, for debate/variations?) - riverscape makes sense in line with cloudscape, townsc.,, seasc. - but I hadn't encountered it.
