agree  Stephen Reader: W/Helen. M.L. Apelt has 'emulsion ground'. Olga's e.g.s, esp. the 1st, suggest you could say 'acrylic gesso' (or PVA gesso) in asker's sentence but depends on what's current.

a mixture of acrylic and half-chalk primers

Explanation:
"Acrylic-and-half-chalk primer" would be more accurate but also more awkward, I think.

Example sentence(s):
  • GESSO: ...Same name applied to acrylic bound chalk and pigment used on flexible supports as well as rigid.
  • ...no matter which kind of painting ground you choose, - classical half-chalk primer or simple acrylic paint...

neutral  Stephen Reader: Neutral only because your 1st e.g. sentence shows gesso can be acrylic, chalk and all. In your 2nd e.g. the distinction seems to be between 'classical' and (implied) 'modern'. (Forgive my hair-splitting)
