I'm not sure what subject field this should be under. The sentence above comes at the end of a report on future plans (diese Vorhaben) for expanding and restructuring a museum and its collections. The report includes a summary of the history and architecture of the museum (founded in 19th c), and then outlines its plans for the future (the main focus of the report), e.g. new exhibition space, admin buildings, visitor centre etc - the concept of "urban regeneration" and positively influencing the city district in which it is located are also mentioned a lot.

So I (think I) get what it means (the idea of expansion, growth, education, developing a centre of art and culture seems to have been there from the beginning) but anything Ive come up with for "einer perspektivischen Kontinuität" so far sounds very stilted, having to include "museum" and "its collections" is also a bit of a mouthful. The literal option "perspectival continuity" doesnt make sense to me. Turning perspektivisch into a noun seems more natural - perspective - though I am tending towards outlook (the goals, mission, outlook, plans of the museum and its collections?)

(...are also evidence of) the continuity of the museum's (and its collections?) outlook from the early 19th c to the present day and beyond...

...prove that the future outlook of the museum and its collections is no different than it was in (has remained unchanged since) the early 19th c

Explanation:
Essentially, I think it means that the museum's vision has remained constant since its opening or since the early 19th century anyway. No doubt its 'mission statement' has stayed the same.

For me the problem lies in attributing a 'vision' or 'mission' or suchlike to the collections. One might insert 'focus' in there, hence making the sentence read something like:

This project ... is testimony to the museum's ongoing vision and the continuity of focus of its collections ....

you deserve all imaginable compliments --- seing how you all are helping the writers of the German text to say what they mean to but can't quite. To add a thought, all answers seem in agreement that temporal perspective is in question, both forward looking and retrospective.

Since "Perspektiven" are very often translated as "prospects", have you considered "the prospects for the museum's future", or something along those lines?

Yes, its not really a technical term and is an academic text tho hasnt been too formal/full of big words ;) it does seem to apply to all areas of expansion - physical (buildings etc) and conceptual.
You are welcome to post it as an answer, I have just been looking at the sentence for too long and everything I came up with seemed to sounding very "German" so I thought before it gets any later I could maybe get some good advice, confirmation or otherwise here!

This was about to be an "Ans." but considering you're already there, it seems fairer to place it in "Discussion" (fairer than plagiarism, anyway!) : -
(Ans. - "Continuity of outlook" - *your* suggestion) ...methinks, just from the overall impression (thanks for all that context, Orla); I don't get the impression it's not so much of a technical term, just a general concept phrased in somewhat academic vein. (If I'm not being too simplistic, a risk I suppose).

Asker: Thanks Helen! Part of my problem was finding something that worked with both "museum" and "collections" as well, was going to ask if it was really necessary to include both but this could be the solution.

I did wonder re. 'prospects' etc.; but in the given D statement that doesn't seem to fit so well - am more drawn to the museum's own outlook/policy for its collections, a 'continuous history'.

Example sentence(s):
