German term or phrase: Anforderung des Motors wegnehmen
Hello everyone,

I'm translating a technical instruction describing a running-in procedure for a large industrial engine. Towards the end of the procedure, it says:

Nach Beendigung des 60-minütigen Nennleistungs-Betriebs soll der Motor automatisch abstellen. Das heißt, die Anforderung des Motors während des Volllast-Betriebs wegnehmen und warten bis der Motor selbstständig abgestellt hat.

I don't fully understand "Anforderung des Motors wegnehmen". Of course, it literally reads 'remove the demand from the engine', but this doesn't make a great deal of sense. Any ideas please from specialists in this sector?

Many thanks

turn motor power off

Explanation:
Based on the description of what happens, that is, the motor comes to a stop on its own, it sounds like this is a coast-down test. The power is turned off and the motor slows down and eventually stops.
If this interpretation is correct then "Anforderung" is used in the same sense as "Ansteuerung".

More than just 'easing off', I think.

agree  tr_dg: EDIT:thanks a lot for the comment. I thought the "während" implied that it kept running until it was decoupled from whatever it was turning, at which point the engine would shut itself off. I should be more careful, Occam's razor comes into play here.
