My first German reference said:

Basisfahrzeug = base vehicle

From the Fiat Ducato PDFs it looks like it means the cab section depicted in red on p. 10 in your ref.

Thanks, David, I did. Put both options in, since the frame-or-no-frame part means it's only an approximation. But nothing else I could dig up.

Thing about "chassis cab" was that somehow it may or may not come with the frame attached, as far as I could see. But it is confirmed here:
"Chassis Cab - A common type of base vehicle on which a motorhome may be built. The vehicle manufacturer builds a complete, driveable chassis with enclosed cab area, but no bodywork behind the cab. The converter then adds a habitation area to this."

Das paßt auf jeden Fall in diesem Zusammenhang. Ein bekannter und von dir erwähnter Autohersteller leifert die Triebköpfe. Die Übersetzung musste ich aber so früh wie möglich liefern, so dass sie leider bereits abgegeben ist. Die Triebköpfe habe ich dabei "traction units" genannt. Ist das akzeptabel, oder muss ich ggf. eine Korrekturfassung nachliefern?

Have also seen "chassis cab." Maybe it helps you a bit. "Front end" is used for a lot of different things, at least according to my search, so I wouldn't recommend it.
