Your examples refer to testing. The valves have no position to verify or check correctness, but to test the water flow. A lever for "check position" initiates no flow or alarm. Your example is not applicable to the context. I cite:

Germans use the loanword "testen" often thoughtlessly for testing, as well as for checking, disregarding the differences. Only the word "kontrollieren" is correctly adopted from the French term "contrôler". Retranslation leads to errors, consequently. We should consider the verb "testen" as false friend, accordingly.

The Reliable Model TD Test and Drain Valve is a single-handle, tri-position ball valve allowing both testing of the waterflow alarm and draining of a wet-pipe for protection alarm.

This means alarm verification, typical for checking rather than testing and is no proof. This is no real test, but complies with the definition of check: This is a check that should be carried out by the employee/wearer of the device each time that they put it on, cited in my references.

Definitions prevail over manufacturer’s terminology. I would trust ISO, ASTM or BS, and English dictionaries.

To run a test, rotate the handle counter-clockwise until the “Test” position is aligned with the ball detent.
