German term or phrase: Quelle ...als Kraftplatz
Context: Brochure about mineral waters
http://www.st-leonhards-quelle.de/

Target audience and style: health conscious mineral water aficionados; a bit New Age; a tad esoteric; & a dash of science ;)

Sentence: "Die Umgebung der Quelle, an dem die Sonnenquelle entspringt, [...] ist bereits seit über tausend Jahren als sogenannter Kraftplatz bekannt. Schon die Kelten und Roemer nutzten das hochwertige Wasser.... etc"

How would the English Shaman call this: a spiritual place? a sacred place? a place of power?

A discussion of the German term can be read here:

Thanks so much.

English translation:Spring...a place of spiritual energy
Explanation:
"It is likely that High Rock is an energy vortex, a place of spiritual energy."

Googling 'place of spiritual energy' indicates others.

Somehow I think Kraft is more in the sense of energy than power?

Thanks Chris. I really like the 'energy' idea - especially since it fits nicely with later descriptions of the water's special qualities. Grand merci to everyone for their inspired research and fine suggestions.

source as power center

Explanation:
Hi Johanna, just rummaging in the Net. The closest I get to New Age is when my yoga instructor puts on the ambient Celtic mumbo-jumbo and I try to tap into my inner chakra (while thinking of dinner of course). Oh, yes, I've tried magic mushrooms! Ultra-psychedelic...although I overdosed a little bit so I thought the TV was attacking me.

Anyway, try "power center". Might work.

source ... a place of power

Explanation:
In shamanism, "place of power" is a frequently used expression. See for example:
www.shamanism.com/ongoing-workshop.htm
Out of interest, I googled for "site of power" - not really popular, used by some archaeologists and in science fiction.
In shamanism, many things can be a "source of power", this does not have to be a place/site.

agree  Lancashireman: Agree with 'energy' here. 'Power' sounds too aggressive for this context.
