A detachable rifle often used for poaching or homocide and for than reason often banned. I've found several sources from the first half of the 19th century.

agree  jccantrell: Would have been my choice. I have seen them as 'survival rifles' that pilots put in the survival kit in small planes in Alaska to, ahem, keep the wolves at bay.
