To this ecotop is restricted the critically endangered species
Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum. Despite intensive searches at
the original locations this species was confirmed at 6 out of 21
old localities. Pedicularis sceptrum carolinum occurs abundantly
only in one locality, the others are endangered by natural-
seeding of trees.

The aim of our work on regeneration establishment is to provide models for the process of natural seeding of trees based on parameters describing the geological, climatic and exposition situation of a particular stand.

http://www.montesano.us/forestcycle03manage.htm:
Natural seeding of hemlock, alder, cedar, and spruce occurs in a majority of Douglas fir plantations, as shown here.

http://www.fao.org/docrep/x0622e/x0622e0t.htm:
The modern special erosion control materials produced as erosion control blankets and nets are highly efficient with immediately effects on slopes. If the basic materials are from natural materials such as jute, coconut, straw or cotton, then the result of soil protection measures are attractive because erosion control vegetation can be supported by original natural seeding of grasses, shrubs and trees.

Gehölzanflug
not sure

Explanation:
I found a german definition for Gehölzanflug in the URL below, but I don't know if this is the general definition. And I have no idea what word there could be in the english language to describe that. Still I hope this can help:

? Gehölzanflug:

hier: durch Wind, Tiere etc. verbreiteter und aus Samen
natürlich aufgekommener Gehölzaufwuchs, der sich
noch nicht dauerhaft etabliert hat

neutral  Dierk Widmann: A coppice would already be established, not a "wood in the making", which the word Gehölzanflug implies, I would say.

neutral  Kim Metzger: This doesn't account for "Anflug."

natural (re-)forestation

Explanation:
I am not entirely convinced by this, as all the google hits fitting were of non-English-speaking origin.

Perhaps you could use "... areas of perennial grass affected by natural forest growth...", which would point to the process taking place.

neutral  gangels (X): that would be 'forest re-growth'. Reforestation is done by human intervention and as such is not 'natural'
12 mins
-> That is why I put the prefix in a bracket. Reforestation as a word does not imply human intervention, but only the re-growth of the forest.
