German term or phrase: Niete
"Knauf statt mit Niete mit widerstandsfähiger Schraube befestigt und abgerundet"

The sentence is referring to a manual coffee grinder that has a knob instead of a "Niete", the only translation I could find was "rivet" which clearly doesn´t make sense in this context.

Thanks in advance!

I suppose I was thinking more of rivets used on clothes so I couldn´t make the link. Thank you for the help!

  -> Coffee!

agree  Thomas Pfann: And it's not that the grinder has "a knob instead of a Niete", but the handle (Knauf) is screwed on/bolted rather than riveted ("Knauf mit Schraube statt mit Niete befestigt"). // Note, though, that the German text (incl. "mit") is correct as it is

  -> Of course.//Yes, with two different correlatives.

agree  MARIA LEIDAL KOVACS: Yes, Thomas explained it correctly. :) First "mit" should not have appeared in the source text.
17 mins
  -> Thank you Maria. but as to the 'mit', it's quite correct - the first relates to instead of, the second, to the screw

agree  Johannes Gleim: What else? // What is misread?

  -> Happens to the best of us, Johannes, you just misread it, and whammo, it's like a message from outer space.//The asker misread/misassociated the term.

  -> To read or misread, THAT'S the question.

  -> when in doubt, go for the obvious.
