bit matrix Explanation: I am pretty confident that "Kernstoppel" means "bit matrix", which describes the technical design of the tip of a geological drillbit. There are many different design of bit matrix (just google it) and I believe that your context means that the material that was drilled for has been washed out between the matrix.
