German term or phrase: Reichskommissariat
Hallo,

This is addressed to American colleagues. I am told that the German Reich is written in American English. Okay.

So how do you say Reichskommissariat. Would we just leave it as it is, or write something else.

I'd be grateful for any comments.

Thanks in advnace,

Maria

neutral  writeaway: Realm Commisariat is completely wrong. not even remotely English. I agree with the advice you give which is why I haven't given the actual English answer the red disagree it deserves.

disagree  Helen Shiner: Realm Commissariat is misleading and wrong, hence the disagree, which I give out very infrequently; sorry.

agree  Alexander C. Thomson: Agree only with Reichskommissariat on its own. This is one of those cases where a non-native speaker of English on Wikipedia has zealously overtranslated. It’s always ‘Reichskommissariat’ in historical writing in English.

agree  conny: nciht übersetzen, aber Erklärung in (), z.B. "civil administration of the German Reich in countries occupied during WWII
