Translating a memoir from the end of WW2, and this term shows up multiple times. I can't find any explanation of what these women did during the NS regime, although they are referenced indirectly in a couple of places. Does anyone know more? Even a basic explanation would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Suggestions for shorter forms for repetition of the term: "the local leader of the NSWA" or "the local leader of the NS-Frauenschaft".

agree  oa_xxx (X): agree, seems convincing, have seen other references too.Is a bit long to be used multiple times within one text but not sure how it could be shortened

-> Thanks, Orla, you are right. Maybe a short form for repetition of the term would be "the local leader of the NSWA" or "the local leader of the NS-Frauenschaft"

Reference: Blockleiter

Reference information:
"Blockleiter (English: Block Leader, derived from city block) from 1933 was the title of a lower Nazi Party political rank responsible for the political supervision of a neighborhood. Referred to in common parlance as Blockwart (Block Warden), the officials were in charge to form the link between the Nazi authorities and the general population."

"Position of authority in the NSDAP; women responsible for a local unit, e.g. Blockmutter, Zellenmutter" (footnote - "There seems to have been some uncertainty over whether women should be referred to as Blockfrau or Blockmutter..." etc.)

"Praktiziert hat diesen persönlichen Boykott, der von der Marktfrau in Erwägung gezogen wurde, die Blockleiterin G.,‘ die für den Block, in dem Frau B. wohnte, zuständig war: „Wir hatten hier eine Blockfrau, die eben über alle Verhältnisse genau Bescheid gewußt hat, die hat gewußt, daß ich Jüdin bin."

Perhaps also useful (do a search for Blockfrau - comes up quite a lot and is included in the glossary at the end):

I would probably provide an explanation the first time its mentioned and then either leave it in German, use a literal translation or something more generic like local NSF leader - tho not to be confused with the "Frauenschaftsleiterin".
