I cannot think of a good English term for koenigsnah. Could you just say royal?

agree  philgoddard: I think the implication may be that the historians were friends of the royals, but this is the right idea.

the royalist version of the history of Portugal

Explanation:
In the royalist version of history politicians were the real obstacle to a true democracy.

Mirza does not subscribe to such an unconditional sanctioning of play-acting any more than it succumbs to an unequivocally royalist version of history.

I might have gone along with the first answer proposed here if it had been two characters shorter: monarchistic > monarchist!
I'm not sure what the -ic suffix is doing here. I am reminded of DE 'asiatisches Restaurant' which is frequently mistranslated into EN as 'Asiatic restaurant' (correct: Asian restaurant). Or the way non-native users flounder with the subtle differences between classic, classical, classicist and (sic) classicistic.

royalist or royal?
A 'royal' version of a country's history would be written by the king (or queen) himself/herself.

Royalist: A person who supports the principle of monarchy or a particular monarchy.

Hmm, so the translation is "monarchistic (near the king)"...

Notes to answerer
Asker: On second thought, I think royalist sounds better. I'm not sure how to change my answer, but I think I am going to go with royalist. Thanks for the help!
