Bus/Financial - Law: Contract(s) / Global Distribution Rights for Films
German term or phrase: Mehr- oder Minderverrechnungen
The target audience is UK English. The original document was written in Berlin.

This term comes from a Licensing Agreement and a Global Distribution Agreement for films.

The section 5(3) referenced in the example sentence is about profit participation and the Licensor's right to share in the profit from (cross-)billable guarantee payments between the film titles, but not for titles/contracts that are not included in the Licensing Agreement / Global Distribution Agreement.

Example sentence:

Very rough translation:
Beyond the cross-billing scheduled in Section 5(3) between the contractual films, the Licensee is not authorized to issue increased or decreased bills between the earnings from distribution of the contractual motion pictures with other films licensed by the Licensor on the part of the Licensee.

Constructive help is always appreciated.

the "verrechnung" component is implictly understood from the overall context IMO

agree  Adrian MM.: plus or minus differences > in UK tax: balancing allowances + vs. balancing charges - and not only of capital writing-down allowances but now also of personal income tax 'self-assessments'.

overpayments or shortfalls

Explanation:
Thanks for this one. Yes I agree. This is about collecting payment shortfalls or settling overpayments from other sources (films). For instance if for Film X you got $20k instead of $30k, and now you are owed $40 for Film Y, you invoice $50k for Film Y to make up for (offset) the difference.

Asker: Hi Cillie, thank you for taking the time to think about this with me. It turned out to be about offset after all. My apologies on having misled you in my introductory comments about the question. Your answer is still quite relevant and your suggestion may even be better than the one I ended up going with. I choose the "pluses or minuses" option, though your suggestion is quite clear. Since the offset involved proceeds from multiple films, and the sentence in question restricted offset to compensation only within the accounting for one single film and not against other films under the contract, I chose "plus or minus" offset.
