god of healing Explanation: god of healing : ) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 mins (2004-11-19 11:05:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Eshmun – the youthful vegetation god – was an important Phoenician deity and symbolised by his death and resurrection the hope of health and a long life. The Greeks therefore identified him with their god of healing Asclepios. An important sanctuary of Eshmun is located some kilometres to the North of the Lebanese town of Saida - the former Phoenician trade center Sidon. http://www.antikekunst.ch/antkmain/heft_antk/b17.html -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 18 mins (2004-11-19 11:19:19 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- FYI - Äskulap is written \"Aesculap\" or \"Esculap\" in English. |
