German term or phrase: Hier befindet sich auch der Gedenkstein
Hi,

Translating about various different public gardens and parks with a focus on some of Switzerland's greats linked to the latter in some way. All English will be proofread by a native speaker of British English.

DE:

First attempt - unfortunately this would only be a rough draft:
EN:
***A memorial plaque commemorating*** the founder of the municipal park, XY, ***will educate the interested visitor coming to this part of it***.

First revised version of rough draft (is this actually any better or do you like the first version better?):
EN2: ***In this part of the municipal park***, ***the interested visitor will find*** a memorial plaque commemorating its founder.

Kindly asking for feedback in either UK English or American English. Target language of job is British English.

Cheers,

[Turn the phrasing round again]

Explanation:
I might be having a bit of a 'dumb blonde/brunette' moment, but I can't see the part about 'interested visitors' [sic.] in the source text?

If you want to keep the 'interested visitors', I'd turn the sentence round again:

Visitors interested in X will find a plaque commemorating him in X part of the park.

If you decide to do away with that, you could go for:

A plaque commemorating X has been placed/is to be found/is located/etc. in X part of the park.

(incidentally - I think 'memorial plaque' is a little bit of a tautology; I'd go with just 'plaque')

agree  Thomas Pfann: Or just 'memorial'. And yes, I'd get rid of the 'interested visitor' (even those not actually interested will be able to see the memorial). Also 'municipal park, XY' (if used) needs shortening (eg. 'XY park'). Your short version sounds best, though.

-> Thanks, Thomas - I completely agree with cutting 'municipal'. There are so many different ways to write this phrase!

agree  Wendy Streitparth: Morning! Really like "commemorative plaque dedicated to" but I think I'd leave 'city' out.

Hier befindet sich auch der Gedenkstein (an)
This is where the memorial (stone to...) is also to be found (nestling)

Explanation:
It is a Gedenkstein and not -platte e.g. plaque, plus - after chewing on the idea - I, as a published poet, have not eschewed he Swiss chocolate association of 'nestles' but added it as a literary option.

BTW, 'this is where' ought to be a standard idiomatic English opener to avoid the predictable, 'dull-thud' of 'here.. (you will find etc.)'.

This also marks the location of a memorial stone

Explanation:
.. for the founder of City Garden XY

The emphasis on flower beds and different types of plant species leads me to call this a garden (Compare with botanical garden). Otherwise, it should be park.

Gedenkstein always is a block of stone, more than a plaque, hence memorial stone.
