German term or phrase: trockener Befund
From an article on macular edema.

Patients are treated with three intravitreal injections over 18 weeks, then they have a follow-up exam.

The sentence is ""Im Falle eines trockenen Befundes wurden Kontrollen im niederlassenen Bereich durchgeführt."
And then also: "Weitere Kontrolle der Patienten with "trockenem" Befund war nicht vorgesehen."

I have found that macular edema can be described as "wet" or "dry", but I am not sure that this is what they mean here.

There are also lots of "dry eye" conditions, but I also suspect that this is not what they mean.

The way the article reads, they seem to be using "trocken" as a kind of synonym for "normal" or "improved". Has anyone come across this kind of usage before?

Thanks!
In the end, I think they were referring to dry AMD, it just confused me that they were treating this state as the point at which no further treatment or follow-up was required :-)

agree  Anne Schulz: Agree with CL4 that this is what is meant here (would choose CL5 if it wasn't medicine, where you should never say never ;-)

found to have dried up

Explanation:
Seems possible based on your description.

We now have a group of drugs called anti-VEGF that you inject into the eye and that cause those abnormal blood vessels to dry up. In a number of patients, vision even comes back to normal. Unfortunately, it's only available for the 200,000 people a year who develop the "wet form" of neovascular AMD.

The good news is that the fluid, caused by new leaky blood vessels in the retina, can often be dried up by treatment with Avastin, Eylea, or Lucentis. These medicines are injected into the eye through a tiny needle, as often as once per month.

There's also the expression 'symptoms (have) dried up', but I think it's too colloquial. Perhaps 'results showed that the wet AMD had dried up'.
