I am not sure if I'm dealing with a botched-up back translation or if I should blame myself for occasionally snoozing through science classes in college... I am dealing with a series of translations on Botox(R). Here is the context:

Der Einsatz von Botulinumtexin A (BTX-A) stellt eine innovative und nahezu ***kausal ansetzende Therapie*** mit lang-anhaltendem Effekt dar, der zu einer zufriedenstellenden Rehabilitation des Patienten führen kann.

Further down:

Bezugnehmend auf die integrierte Triggerpunkt-Hypothese erscheint Botulinumtoxin A (BTX-A) als eine ***nahezu kausal wirkende Substanz***.

And then in the summary:

BTX-A stellt eine mögliche wirkungsvolle therapeutische Strategie bei chronifizierten und therapie-refraktärem MPS [translator: myofascial pain syndrome] dar. Basierend auf dem derzeit favorisierten pathophysiologischen Modell erscheint BTX-A als ****nahezu kausal wirkende Substanz***.

Despite all the undergradute and graduate education that I did NOT snooze through, I cannot figure out what "kausal wirkend" means in this context.
