This is how I read the sentence in a somewhat clumsy English:
The authors point out that in as much as it is true that the subjective complaints and also the objective findings improve, a more significant response to the symptoms compared to the objective findings can however be found/established/observed.
The use of "zwar" and "however" also bugged me at first. To my mind you could almost leave out the word "zwar" and also "however" and it would not change the meaning of the sentence. For example: The authors point out that both the subjective complaints and the objective findings improve, but that a more significant response to the symptoms compared to the objective findings can be found/established/observed.
