I understand all of this except "Staatsbad." Any idea what is meant here?

Explanation:
The "Staatsbad" is just the historic name of the facility. It is a sanatorium that consist of a number of different facilities all in the same town. I would think you are fine to just call it a sanatorium without expanding on it.

disagree  Daniel Arnold (X): nah, that is not what it means, it isnt run or operated by the state, that's just a historic name is my guess. But even if it is it still is a sanatorium. I think you can squeeze it into "sanatorium", the ancientness of the term really does go well.
