caretaker Explanation: Thanks for the disciplinary measure, Ramey. I think caretaker often seems to work in this context, especially as in \\\\\\\'the main caretaker\\\\\\\" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2015-08-09 12:42:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- \\\"Without knowing it, many caretakers, such as parents, teachers, mentors, or anyone else in a position of influence in a child\\\'s life, are completely unaware of the warning signs.\\\" https://books.google.com/books?id=C5d8-bW9418C&pg=PT73&dq="c... \\\"The damage is particularly severe when the error is committed by caretakers, such as parents, teachers, or therapists..\\\" https://books.google.com/books?id=WUgeAAAAQBAJ&pg=PA110&dq="... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 13 hrs (2015-08-10 00:51:13 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Hi Andrew: You sound like an Austrian telling off a German for using some everyday expression on the grounds that it\'s not used in Austria. Use of U.S. language hasn’t been limited to the U.S. for a VERY long time. Besides, anything that’s English is fair game unless asker has declared a preference. |

parents and educators Explanation: or parents and other responsible adults -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 21 hrs (2015-08-10 09:11:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- To clarify the order of my suggestions: I offered parents and educators as a non-redundant translation. Since we do not know what precedes the source sentence but the 'damit' infers a prior description, one could simply attach 'such as parents and educators' to the previous sentence. IF it is necessary to separate the two, then a complete translation would be (of course without the needed context): This refers to/We mean/Here, responsible adults such as parents and educators are meant. |
