Addendum 02:38 Mar 26, 2021
I was just trying various searches, based on the suggestions received, and actually found "forms and norms" used on several Lutheran websites. Also found a reference to the "Rule and Norm" section of the Formula of Concord (one of the so-called "symbolical books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church." Thus, perhaps the passage could be translated as: "In our parish, all of the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments are recognized as God’s revealed Word, and all of the symbolical books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church are recognized as the forms and norms drawn from the Word of God, according to which not only the teaching in our parish should be conducted and tested, but also any disputes of doctrine and religion that occur should be judged and regulated. The latter are: the Three Chief Symbols, the Unaltered Augsburg Confession, the Apology of the same, the Smalcald Articles, Dr. Luther’s Smaller and Larger Catechism, the Formula of Concord and the Articles of Visitation." |
