Zum ersten Mal wird die umfangreiche Sammlung chinesischer Textilien des Deutschen Textilmuseums in einer eigenen Ausstellung der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Neben prachtvollen Drachenroben in der "kesi" genannten, sehr feinen chinesischen Technik der Schlitzwickerei finden sich auch gestickte Gewänder, Mäntel, Röcke und Behänge. Die Drachenroben weisen ein der chinesischen Mythologie entlehntes symbolisches Abbild des Kosmos auf dem Ur-Ozean, Weltenbergen und dem durch Wolkenmotive angedeuteten Himmel, in dem sich der Drache, Symbol des Kaisers, aufhält. Theatergewänder nehmen solche Darstellungen in abgewandelter Form auf. Dort finden sich dann zehn statt der üblichen acht beziehungsweise neun Drachen.
