neutral  Thomas Pfann: In British English as well? When I hear "dress shirt" I think of the kind of shirt you wear with a dinner jacket (such as this one: http://tinyurl.com/3xabrlo). Of course, I am not a native speaker and might be wrong - just asking out of interest. ;-)

  -> In answer to your question, yes. BTW if you wear it with a 'dinner jacket', it must be British. Guard only knows what they wear with a tuxedo.

I suppose you could also say 'business shirt'. However, neither of these would feature the 'button-down' feature that you mention.
